Dress with Long Vest

I've been purchasing more neutral pieces since I decide a curate a more neutral wardrobe (at least at its foundation). Like this casual black dress that I got from Zara, it's a piece I imagine that I'll wear a lot this Spring/Summer because it goes with so much. I paired the dress with a long vest for this look, but I can easily wear it alone, with a denim jacket, layered with a cute blouse...the possibilities are endless. I find that the more neutral pieces I purchase the more outfits that I'm able to create and the more wear I get out of my clothing. I love that. I wore this look to my first NYC day party of the season.

Versatile Black Dress

I love a versatile black dress for work. They come in pretty handy when you need a no-fuss  work outfit or for a look you can easily transition for afterwork. This Calvin Klein black number is one of my favorite work dress. The cut and length  are both work appropriate especially when paired with a blazer of a cardigan. Yet, the gold details on the dress and the fact that it's sleeveless means that I can easily ditch the blazer for a less formal look when I have afterwork plans.  I think black dresses are one of the easiest piece to transition from day to night. You can add statement jewelry, a change of shoes, or a cute clutch to get ready for your evening festivities.

Breaking Fashion Rules: Navy and Black

I silently cheered when navy and black became the color combination of choice a few seasons back. No longer a fashion faux pas (though I often ignore fashion rules), I enjoy wearing the color combination, especially in the cooler months. I love this Blu Pepper polka dot dress, because while the material is thin enough for summer, it's also a great Fall transition piece and looks great with tights and booties in winter. I also like that it's empire waist  silhouette flatters my waist and elongates my legs. How can we not love a flattering piece of clothing?

My Summer of Dresses + Thoughts on Commitment

My summer of dresses. I didn't consciously plan to wear so many dresses this summer, but it's turning out that way. Dresses are just a lot easier, I like that I can grab one item and my outfit is 90% complete. This coral wrap dress that I've had for a few years now is one of my summer faves. What hasn't been easy for me lately is going to the gym. Life is super busy right now, and I have a lot on my plate. It's a daily decision to stay committed to my fitness journey. I tell myself that commitment means staying the course in spite of my feelings. It's true for any goal or journey you begin, staying the course, even when it's hard is the key to realizing your goals and dreams.

Tea Party Look: The Midi Dress

Tea Party Look: The Midi Dress

On Sunday, I attended a tea party. When I hear tea party I think "classy and modest." For the look, I envision a pretty dress and a lovely set oh pearls....oh and white gloves. Can you tell that my idea of a tea party is somewhat colored by 19th century romantic literature and old British movies? I wore this midi dress, because while it's classy and modest, it also has a funky fun floral detail that I love; it's a midi dress (and I'm currently having a love affair with midis) and it's super comfortable.

What I wore to my Friend's Wedding

Last week, I attended my friend's July 4th wedding in New York. It was beautiful. To celebrate my friend's nupitals, I wore a peplum hem dress from Zara. Although I would have really loved to wear colored pumps, I went with these nude Zara heels and silver jewelry to pick up the silver detail on the dress' neckline. Choosing the right wedding guest dress is not always an easy feat (though I'm sure it's less stressful than choosing your actual wedding dress). I wanted something simple and chic and appropriate for the occasion. Wedding season is currently at its height, I recommend Zara, J Crew, Banana Republic or dress boutique stores for your summer wedding looks.

Pink Silk Skirt Outfit

It's a great feeling when you find a piece that you've wanted for months. Inspired by this skirt from Oscar de la Renta's 2013 collection, last spring I went on a hunt for pink silk skirt to add to my spring wardrobe rotation. My search online and in stores didn't produce an affordable version that I liked. Nevertheless, a chance trip to a sample sale in L.A. months later did. As the saying goes, sometimes you find what you want when you're not looking.

Life can be like that sometimes. You go about your day doing mundanely only to discover the right opportunity, person or thing that you've been looking for. It has happened to me too many times to count. It helps me to keep an open mind, because the things that you least expect can and often do lead to beautiful beginnings.
