What I Wore to Diner en Blanc, Long Island

Last Friday, I attended the inaugural Diner El Blanc, Long Island.  Diner en Blanc is a formal outdoor picnic where attendees wear white attire.  It was my first time attending a Diner en Blanc event, so I jumped at the opportunity to go after seeing the beautiful photos from other Diner en Blanc events populate my social media feeds from time-to-time. It looked like a sophisticated all white affair that I wanted to experience so I started planning my outfit as soon as I registered. I knew I wanted to wear a white pantsuit, a white jumpsuit or a dress. A few try-ons later and I decided on a white dress that I bought earlier this summer, muted metallic accessories and this pretty flower crown. The Diner en Blanc style guidelines encourage attendees to come as fashionably festive as possible so white lace gloves, hats and masks are par for the course.

Although I was ready to attend the event, things didn't go exactly as planned.  I ended up wearing a dress that I foundonly 30 minutes before the bus pulled off to take us to the secret location. On my commute from Brooklyn to Long Island, my original dress ripped. Bummer! Serendipitously, our bus was scheduled to leave from the parking lot of a TJ Maxx. Rushed and worried, I rummaged through racks of clothing before I found the last white dress in the store. I kid you not, I did not see another one. I really didn't expect to find a white dress (that fits!) so late after summer. A quick change in the fitting room and I was ready to go. Sometimes things just have a way of working out as they should.  Crisis averted!
