Staying Anchored

What does it mean to be anchored? It means to fix or fasten. To stay put when everything is sinking.

How are you staying anchored in this season? The pandemic has brought a lot of changes to our lives: stay at home orders; virtual school; working from home; job losses; anxiety; among other changes. Along with these changes, there is the sheer sadness of lives lost and people falling ill. Many of us are cut off from our support systems due to social distancing restrictions. We think twice before traveling or making plans to meet up. Our places of worship have moved online so we miss out on in-person fellowship and events that normally bring people together are on pause. The things we did for stress relief and enjoyment like going to the gym, the spa, date nights, or meeting up with friends are limited or non-existent for those of us who prefer to practice extreme caution.

For me, my faith is my anchor. With all the changes and sadness of this season, I find assurance in the Word of God. I look forward to starting my days with a morning devotion where I pray, worship, read the Bible, and sometimes journal. It’s easy to get swept up in despondency from the news or social media. Despondency can rob us of our joy, peace, and our ability to function at an optimal level. As much as I believe that we should be aware and compassionate and assist with the many needs in our communities in any way that we can, we cannot pour from empty cups. The truth is, there is some benefit to this time in our lives. With things slowing down, we too can slow down, embrace the stillness, and confront some of the things that we’ve been avoiding in our lives. The best way to stay anchored amidst the changes and upheaval is to fill our cups daily. I fill my cup daily with the word of God.

Below I am sharing a list of resources that are helping me stay anchored during this time:

  1. My morning devotional: Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God

  2. The Blessed and Bossed Up Society: This is a membership society that features daily devotionals, prayer calls, lives, and other resources.

  3. Worship Music Instrumental: This is great for quiet time or just to play while you work.

  4. The Same Room Youtube Channel: addresses a number of topics such as overcoming and addressing trauma from a spiritual person.

  5. The Blessed and Bossed Up Podcast

Stay Blessed!
